Description
The American armor company Desert Technologies (formerly DTA, Desert Tactical Arms) is famous for the production of high-end, highly accurate and multi-caliber rifles, basically only in the bull-pup design. Currently, this company offers small-bore sniper rifles of the SRS series, large-bore and anti-materiel rifles of the HTI series, and finally self-loading rifles of the MDR series, respectively. MDRX.
MDR stands for Micro Dynamic Rifle and it is no exaggeration to say that this is one of the best bull-pups in the world right now. Thanks to this construction solution, these weapons are very compact even with the standard length of the barrel, very balanced thanks to the grip in the center of gravity and easy to control even with one hand. Additionally, the manufacturer focused on making the controls as similar or identical to the AR-15 series rifles as possible. Controlling the weapons is thus very intuitive and easy, the controls are either completely bilateral or accessible from both sides of the weapon, or they can be rotated to the optional side. It is also possible to change the direction of ejection of fired cartridges, it is enough to replace the caps of the ejection windows (one cap is used for ejecting cartridges and the ejector is on the other). Variants marked "FE" (Forward Ejection) also have the function of ejecting the fired cartridge only when the bolt is moved forward, so that the weapon can be safely fired from the opposite shoulder without the shooter being in danger of having the fired cartridge thrown into the face. The "SE" (Side Ejection) variants eject cartridges in the classic way to the side.
The MDRX model is a superstructure of the original MDR model, compared to which it has a reinforced case material (polymer reinforced with glass fiber, which now withstands the drop test according to the American military specifications Mil-Spec), an improved trigger mechanism (shortened stroke and reset, reduced resistance), modified gas handpiece (must withstand military tests of flooding or immersion in mud) and as standard these rifles come with an effective recoil compensator.
Desert Tech MDRX rifles are multi-caliber, which means that a barrel and possibly a bolt and a magazine well reduction can be installed in one gun case with the help of a conversion kit. It is thus easy to change not only the length of the barrel and thus the purpose of the weapon, but also the caliber. The advantage is the fact that, for example, 6.5 Creedmoor and 308 Winchester cartridges, as well as 223 Remington and 300 BLK, have the same bottom dimension, so to change the caliber between these two calibers, it is always enough to change the barrel.
The rifles are compatible with AR-15 (in 223 Rem. / 5.56 x 45 / 300 BLK) or AR-10 (in 308 Win. / 6.5 Crdm) magazines and come standard with a Magpul P- M.A.G.
Basically, MDRX rifles are always delivered in one set (in one caliber), conversion kits or separate barrels can be ordered and delivered separately.
