Avtomat Kalashnikova obrazca 47 (Автомат Калашникова образца 1947 года, translatable to Czech as Kalashnikov automatic vzor 1947), known by the abbreviation AK-47 or simply as Kalashnikov, is one of the most famous assault rifles in the world. It was built in the USSR by the young Soviet designer Mikhail Timofeyevich Kalashnikov. Thanks to its popularity and exact appearance, the AK-47 has also become a frequently used cultural element. In movies and video games (such as GTA: San Andreas), it is often depicted as a weapon used by gangsters.
